Provino Baja California

Everything's for the wine and the culture

We are a vintners association representing 84 wineries of Baja California region. We have 33 years of experience in the promotion of the wine growing industry of Baja California and we organize events and activities promoting the wine culture.

Our Valleys

The ideal conditions to obtain grapes
and fine wines.

Baja California has +4,500 hectares planted with vines and around 260 wine projects that represent 70% of wine production in Mexico, making this region the undisputed leader of Mexican wine culture. The wine growing valleys are located between 11 and 15 miles from the Pacific Ocean and each one has its own characteristics: microclimates, soil composition, water availability and marine influence. The main wine-growing valleys in our region are:
1. Valle de Tanamá / Tecate
2. Valle de Guadalupe:
• San Antonio de las Minas
• Ejido El Porvenir
• Francisco Zarco
3. Valle de Ojos Negros
4. Valle de La Grulla
5. Valle de Santo Tomás
6. Valle de San Jacinto
7. Valle de San Vicente

Climate
The temperature is the single most important climatic element for vine growth. Suitable latitudes for viticulture are between 32° and 51° in the northern hemisphere and between 28° and 42° in the southern hemisphere. On average, Ensenada Baja Califrornia’s climate, registers a temperature of 71°F and has an oceanic influence that functions as a thermoregulatory effect.

Edaphology
The terroir generally defines the characteristics and personality of a wine, its structure, color, acidity, aroma and finesse. In Baja California, the soil of the wine-growing areas are: sandy, clay, granitic, gravelly and limestone.

Fiestas de la
Vendimia

Since 1990 we've been celebrating the harvest season. We are proudly the owners of the trade mark of the traditional “Fiestas de la Vendimia”; for 25 days (july-august) we celebrate in the most important wineries in the region, with international chefs and the most prestigious restaurants in Mexico reunite.
